What is the Brantford Arts Block?

We are a not-for-profit community arts organization with a vision to nurture the artistic and creative potential of Brantford. We aim to give local artists, of every age and skill level, the chance to showcase their works in an open and accessible venue. We try to showcase the entire arts community featuring contemporary, and traditional artists that work in a variety of mediums. We are an art gallery, a music venue, artist studios, a place to read poetry, a multi-media resource and so much more!

Where is the Brantford Arts Block?

The Brantford Arts Block is located in the heart of downtown Brantford, at 80 Dalhousie St. We are located on the main floor of the Temple Building, right across from Harmony Square.

How can I get involved in the local arts scene?

By getting involved with the Brantford Arts Block, of course! We offer plenty of art classes, special events, gallery exhibitions, and lots of other neat stuff! Let us know what you are interested in and we'll point you in the right direction.

How can I get my artwork exhibited at the Arts Block?

The process for getting your artwork up on the walls at the Arts Block is not as hard as it may seem. We've tried to make the process as open and user-friendly as possible. The first step is to fill out our Exhibition Guidelines. This form may seem intimating at first, but it is not meant to be! Just fill it out as best you can. After your form has been submitted, the Exhibition Review Committee will go through it, along with all other submissions, and put together the upcoming exhibition schedule. You will be contacted either way. You can submit your Request Form at any time.

My child wants to take an art class. What kind of classes do you offer?

Here at the Brantford Arts Block you and your child will be able to choose from a variety classes, workshops and programs taught by local artists, art students and professionals. You'll have to check out our Classes and Workshops frequently because we are always offering you something new and exciting.

Can I hold an event in your gallery space?

The performance space at the Brantford Arts Block showcases the best of Brantford’s performing artists with events such as music, film, theatre, story telling, poetry, animation and more.  The space is also available for use by local arts organizations. In the past it has been used as a space for such events as a photo shoot, music concert, and drama class. You can check out more information and get a copy of our Rental Agreement Form here.

Is the art that is exhibited for sale?

This varies from show to show, depending on the artist's preferences. The artist may not be ready to sell it, it may be part of a larger body of work, or it may already be owned by someone else and is being loaned out for the exhibition. If a piece of art is for sale, there will be a price included at the bottom of the label that accompanies it. If you can't find the label, or would like more information on an exhibiting artist, don't hesitate to ask a member of our staff.

If you came to the Arts Block with the intention of buying some art, try checking out our Gift Shop for plenty of one of a kind items and pieces of art.

Can I sell my items in your Gift Shop?

There are a few basic requirements for selling items in our Gift Shop. If you make unique, interesting, or hand made items, or any other one of a kind creations and you are a local artist or artisan, then you are most likely eligible. The other main requirement is that you agree to give the Brantford arts Block a 20% commission on any items sold here. You can get a copy of our Consignment Request to apply to have your work sold at our Gift Shop, and our Consignment Agreement, which details all of the requirements.
