Brantford Arts Block

Artist Spotlight: Parker Littell

Share a little bit about yourself and what you create.
I don’t paint out of happiness or sadness– I paint out of indifference. The words I’ve always used to describe my art is beautiful, happy misery. I see things happening in the world and document them as I see them. I shed light on natural disasters. I take fashion models and make them into freaks of nature. This doesn’t make me happy or sad– it is not even necessarily that I see beauty in ugly things… I see potential for my art in the things that surround me. I see painting from emotion as a flaw.

What is your creative process like and what inspires it?
My indifference to a subject provides me with level-headedness which allows me to produce the best art possible. It’s not about the emotion in each brushstroke or any kind of meaning behind the painting. It’s about me and what I can produce and how I see the world.

What else do you enjoy doing with your time?
I don’t work so most of my time is spent making art. Painting, sculpture and so forth. When I’m not working on my art I like to go out to bars, venues, with friends.

Does creativity run into your family? If so, who is creative and what do they do?
My great Aunt and Uncle on my Fathers side we’re both excellent painters. My Mother also taught photography and worked for years as a photographer. She also plays guitar. As does my brother Corbin (he also plays violin, piano, harmonica and sings).
